The Ten Commandments of the Successful Writer, According to JG Brene

With a degree in multimedia and animation design, and specialization in art direction for cinema, visual effects and 3D, in 2010 in the city of Los Angeles. João Gabriel Brene, 25, from São Paulo, has always been passionate about cinema, but to find a faster way to put his stories into action, he sought in literature another way to bring the character Johnny Bleas to life, who was born in the first book of the trilogy – A New World – released in April this year. “At seventeen, about 8 years ago, when I first thought about writing a book, I started looking for information. I remember that at the time I found very little content and few tips on how to write a successful book. The topic had some visibility on the internet, but all the blogs and websites always seemed to say the cliché”, he recalls.

Despite all the difficulties, he decided that he would write and discover the ways to reach his goal and to tell the story of the young man who had his peaceful life transformed overnight after witnessing the murder of a very dear person, JG Brene. didn't think twice and created some strategies to get his first publication and share with readers the adventures and magic life of Johnny Bleas in Asterium, a world of pirates, elves and sorcerers, located in another dimension, but that has a connection straight to your past. According to him, these are basic tips for those who intend to publish their first book, which he usually calls “The writer's ten commandments.

Carefully following the steps he created, Brene managed to publish his work by Editora Pandorga and today sees his book being distributed by the best bookstores in Brazil such as Cultura, Saraiva and Amazon, among others. For the author, each conquered reader shows that every effort was worth it. “I had to be my own instructor, coming up with a detailed plan to succeed with my book”, he stresses, noting that he had a blatant desire to express his imagination and expose the magical world to which he was connected.

“I always wanted to turn what I saw in my daydreams into a great movie. But I knew that it would take me many years to do that and I might lose the idea. At that moment, literature seemed to me to be the best way to make all this happen, to put the world of fantasies and adventures in a concise work”, he recalls. In the beginning there were only 9 commandments, but with time, the tenth came and now he decided to share it with everyone who wants to conquer their space in the literary market, and one day who knows how to transform their stories into great films.

Here are the 10 commandments of the successful writer:

1. Believe

Never stop believing in your dreams. If this is your path, remember that anyone can be a successful writer or writer. Big names like Paulo Coelho, JK Rowlling, Stephan King, JRR Tolkien also faced adversity in the beginning and yet they believed and today they are references.

2. Idealize

Find an idea, because it's the foundation of everything. Then make sure it's really good, believe in it, develop it, live it. Even if other ideas pop into your mind, focus on just one until you're done.

3. View

Visualize your story at all times. When waking up, having lunch, sleeping, any time. Imagine every moment of it as if you were watching a movie. Every detail is important.

4. write

Start writing without haste. Write a review and then continue the story by thinking about how to always keep your reader excited. Don't make sentences or chapters too long, it can be tiring. Keep up with the story.

5. Read and Reread

When you finish a chapter, read it. When you finish the book, read it. Then re-read until you are sure it was done as well as possible before writing, END.

6. Publish

Do not publish to any publisher in the eagerness to see your book in print “yesterday”. Make a good presentation of your work so that you find the ideal partnership in publishing the book. Carefully analyze the proposals of the publishers and publish at least a thousand copies. Then make sure that she will do a good publicity and if she will really put your book in all the bookstores.

7. Disclose

Don't just depend on your publisher's disclosure. You are primarily responsible for seeking alternatives to publicize your work. If you don't, no one will. Among the most important means of dissemination, I advise the author to have a digital presence, promoting in social media, blogs, email marketing and having a good website.

8. Wait

Don't be anxious, because it will take time for you to reap the rewards of your dedication, but that day will come. Patience is a virtue we must cultivate, because results always come. “What is yours will be kept”.

9. Success

When success is finally achieved, enjoy it without guilt, after all you deserve it for all the effort you've put in to get here. But it is important to feel success right away, because it is an energy and all the energy worked ends up materializing. What the mind conceives, the Universe accomplishes. Oh, and give thanks every day, because gratitude is a powerful energy.

10. Realization

Accomplishment is something much bigger than success. When you achieve success, you reach a new level and more than ever you should continue to thank and help others. Seek to understand and feel your accomplishment. The gains from this journey open the door for you to allow others to follow this path. Spread hope, teach perseverance and multiply love.
